I joined Ericsson because I wanted to work for a technology company that is considered a leader in its field, where the focus is not only on programming but also on technology. Ericsson is a telecommunications leader and focuses on both software and hardware which is different from other companies and that is one of the main reasons why I decided to join.
Here are the top three things I love about working at Ericsson.
At Ericsson, there’s a lot of flexibility, in terms of remote working, work-life balance and arranging your working hours to suit your needs. There’s also flexibility in terms of what you want to do, the technologies you want to work with, and the skills you want to develop. I have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and my manager supports me and encourages me to continually grow and develop my skills; which will help me progress in my career at Ericsson.
The opportunity to work with the latest telecommunications technologies is one of the best things about working at Ericsson. I work on tools and applications that will enable companies to move to the cloud. I work with Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins and I’m involved in the full cycle of projects.
I have the chance to come up with my own idea, research my concept and share it with the team, if approved, we may start developing it through coding and testing, and I am involved in every step of this. I am not only a programmer but also a tester and someone who implements technology. I expected to only write code in my role, but found myself being part of the whole process, which I really enjoy.
It makes me proud to be part of the development of 5G; when i see my family using their phone, i can tell them that i worked on the technology. Even though I only made small changes, I’m still a contributor. Right now I’m working on an automation platform using Cloud Native technologies that will enable 5G and 6G. At Ericsson, we are always working on something new.
There is a welcoming, open and diverse environment here. I really like the team I work on; everyone is really helpful, friendly. We feel like a family.
We always receive the support we need to do our best. For example, upon my arrival, before fully beginning my role in the automation team, I had six weeks of training with the other people who had joined the graduate program at the same time as me. We received training and drills covering all the areas we needed to work on in our roles. When I joined my team, I already had knowledge and experience of new technology. We continue to have this support and the opportunity to develop our skills through access to platforms such as Degreed and other external training websites.
We are always looking for people to join the team at our Athlone site in Ireland and help build the future of telecommunications technology. To find out how you could become part of the team and our site at Athlone, click here.
