A software company that powers the website of at least two area school districts said its security team found ransomware on some systems in the corporate environment.
Finalsite, which is listed as the company used by both the White Bear Lake School District and South Washington County, says the ransomware was identified on Tuesday.
The company says it’s “making significant progress to get all websites up and running” and that “full restoration took us longer than expected.”
Finalsite took to its Facebook page on Thursday to provide an update to its customers, saying an ongoing investigation shows that to date there is no evidence that any data belonging to the company or to its customers have been taken.
Additionally, Finalsite says its security, engineering, and infrastructure teams are working to restore backup systems and bring the network back to full performance.
According to the company’s Facebook account, it provides website design and software for schools.
A spokesperson for South Washington County Schools issued the following statement to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS:
Our website provider, Finalsite, continues to work on a complete restoration of our website. Finalsite reported today that they have no evidence that any data or customer data was taken. Additionally, SoWashCo Schools does not use Finalsite services that store sensitive student or staff information.
