Senior Software Engineer, Frontend – Hypepotamus

In this role, you will help keep complicated things simple. You can expect to work with backend designers and developers to build great products. You can work independently with management as part of a product team. You strive to write code that is maintainable, testable, and accessible. It’s a chance to have a real impact on the orientation of the user interface on all of our products, as well as to help shape our growing team. You are someone who loves to create things. You help improve the team by helping your teammates when they’re stuck, sharing something you’ve learned, and not passing judgment when a teammate asks a question or presents an idea. You’re not afraid of complex issues, but you’re also not afraid to ask for help (something we’re still working on).


  • Bring your experience and problem solving skills to web application development.
  • Provide constructive, patient and informative code reviews to teammates.
  • Constantly raise the floor by improving infrastructure and tackling tech debt.
  • Help others on your team by sharing learnings, mentoring, and providing technical advice.
  • Collaborate with designers, back-end developers, project managers, and QA engineers to help build, maintain, and troubleshoot new and existing web applications.


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or in a related field and / or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in software development.
  • Experience working in a modern front-end stack (ours is React / Redux / Styled-components, Cypress)
  • Experience with CSS: including preprocessors, organization and best practices
  • Mastery of the software development life cycle.
  • Experience working in a Software as a Service (SaaS) company appreciated.
  • Experience working in a start-up and / or an ambiguous environment, with proven experience to be preferably adaptable

Bonus points

  • Experience with testing and testing frameworks (eg Cypress, Jest) is a plus.
  • Experience with TypeScript is a plus
  • Experience with design systems is a plus
