Your impact

Great products need great architecture. This team is focused on providing engineering leverage so that we can scale the business forward. As a Platform Software Engineer within our Shared Services Platform team, you will help create systems that are primarily used by other engineering teams within the DISCO Product Delivery group. The team creates tools, libraries and distributed systems that enable DISCO developers to be efficient and consistent.

We hire people who approach design and development from a systems perspective and aspire to design their systems well. A good candidate can deliver real customer value while seeking architectural quality in terms of availability, scalability, interoperability, modifiability, performance, security and testability.

What you will do

Build and operate platform-wide services such as:

  • Highly scalable and crazy performance systems that will be used by all engineering.
  • Event bus and event provisioning capabilities that deliver business and technical leverage and efficiency.
  • Scalable, orchestrated data pipelines that can take advantage of serverless, containerized compute that balances cost, latency, and time.
  • Algorithmic-intensive data engines that run on streaming, large, or multi-tenant datasets.
  • Analysis engine that processes billions of events to produce metrics used by our products.
  • Identify engineering frictions that slow engineering speed and collaboratively design solutions that achieve platform-wide efficiencies.

Who are you

  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experienced with a number of “Big Data” technologies such as: ElasticSearch, NoSql Stores, Kafka, Columnar Databases, DataFlow or Pipeline Systems, Graph DataStores.
  • Experienced in using common infrastructure services such as Enterprise Message Bus, configuration services, scales, logging systems, telemetry for observability (eg OpenTelemetry).
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI / CD) with a focus on automation tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, CodePipeline.
  • Experienced in building APIs and data models including how to map to storage systems.
  • Familiar with multiple software stacks, have opinions and preferences, not “married to” a specific stack.

Even better if you have …

  • Experience with operating software in a cloud provider such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Experience modifying and operating multi-tenant systems.
  • Knowledge of developing algorithms for intensive pipeline processing systems.
  • An understanding of how to develop from a safety perspective.
  • An understanding of how to identify, select and extend third party components (commercial or open source) that provide operational leverage but do not limit product and engineering creativity.
  • Experience using feature or version toggles as a code branching strategy.

Shared services platform technology stack

  • Cloud Provider – AWS: EC2, Lambda, Aurora, ECS, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, S3, CloudFormation, CodePipeline, EKS, Elasticache etc.
  • Event bus: Kafka and schema register
  • Deployment: Terraform, Docker (via ECS), Consul for App Config, Service Discovery, Shared Secrets, Feature Toggles
  • Visibility: ELK Stack for Logging, Datadog, New Relic
  • Programming languages: Python, Kotlin
  • Transport mechanisms: Protobuf, Avro, HTTP Rest / JSON
  • CI / CD: Jenkins, CodePipeline, GitHub, Artifactory

Why join the DISCO Product Delivery Team

We intend to build a multi-billion dollar business and believe you should join us because:

  • We were the first to adopt a cloud-based platform which caused massive disruption in our market.
  • Our CEO is a true market visionary. He graduated in computer science at the age of 15 and received a JD from Harvard Law School at the age of 19. His unparalleled knowledge of fundamental legal issues and the potential of technology and artificial intelligence to change our core market is the common thread of DISCO’s long-term strategy.
  • We believe that product delivery professionals, including product managers, product designers and engineers, differ from each other by at least a factor of 10. At DISCO, we only hire the 1% the richest, pay them well, and with fairness, everyone actually got a raise every day. Given our product-centric mindset, the product professionals really are the stars of the show. Our logo, the circle and the square, represents the best lawyers and the best product professionals in the world.
  • We measure the speed of product delivery in revenue dollars per line of code, versus just lines of code. This leads to a very thoughtful and deliberate product design and development process which ensures that we are going to make money when we ship products. We hire far more product managers and designers per engineer than most companies to make sure our engineers have unambiguous product intent when they build.
  • As a rule of thumb, we do not commit to external product delivery dates as we believe this unnecessarily limits our creativity from a product and technology perspective.
  • At DISCO, respect isn’t earned at DISCO, that’s assumed. Good humans inherently treat everyone with respect. This is a very important concept at DISCO.
  • Given the high caliber of talent, the cutting edge cloud-based technology stack, and the thoughtful and innovative approach to product and design, you will learn at a pace you probably haven’t experienced in your career. career. Since we only hire professionals who are passionate about their profession, you will really enjoy creating great software and getting the best “career shape” ever.
  • Over the next 4 years, we will develop our product delivery organization. There will be incredible growth opportunities along the way.
  • We use the “2 Pizza Team” organization design where small, self-contained teams own a piece of a product or platform and ship software at rates comparable to a very lean, rambling startup. We achieve consistency between these teams in the areas of design, product-wide use cases, and technical concerns through a set of strategically focused overlay functions.
  • Finally, although we are an incredibly fast growing organization, as a rule of thumb we don’t work crazy long hours. We believe in continuous product delivery, continuous product planning and design, regular and continuous sleep schedules, continuous regular vacations, and continued enjoyment if you are passionate about your craft.

If you want to win while becoming better than ever, come to DISCO.
